Spring student art show and sale is Monday, May 14th

Past Events

The student art show and sale was on December 5th. This event showcased the art talent at the school, as well as several local artists. This year the student art was juried by James Alexander (UAB art professor) and his wife Pamela Venz (Birmingham Southern art professor). The art picked to receive awards was framed and is on display in the school lobby and library. All other artists had their work on display in the art hall. A reception will be provided by Spain Park culinary students and music will be provided by student musicians. The Park Gallery is made possible by the assistance of the Patrons of the Park organization. If you missed this event please try to come to our Spring fund raiser.

Clifton Pearson, ceramic sculptor and visual art department chair for the University of Montevallo, spent the weekend of Oct. 15th and 16th sharing his talents with Spain Park student’s, faculty, and community artists. Mr. Pearson is an accomplished artist and teacher, his work is exhibited throughout the United States. A grant provided by Patrons of the Park made this enrichment opportunity possible. The resources and information shared during this workshop will be utilized in the classroom by the art teachers for future instruction.

In this workshop Mr. Pearson shared his hand building techniques and all participants created works of art using his methods. The works created from this workshop varied in form from shallow bowl shapes to altered cylinders. The surfaces were heavily textured with contrasting smooth surfaces. Examples of these works will be on display at our Winter Art Show, Dec. 5th. The show will be held in the lobby and library of our school from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and is open to the public. Mr. Pearson is donating a piece that he began in the workshop to be auctioned April 1st, 2006 at our annual Fine Arts fundraiser “Evening in the Park”
