Birmingham Southern's Regional high School Art Show
This
past weekend marked the opening of the 30th annual
Birmingham-Southern Southeastern Regional High School
Art Competition and Exhibition. This is a prestigious
art show and extremely competitive drawing work from
all across Alabama and neighboring states. There were
over 300 works of art submitted to the show and just
over 100 accepted.
SPHS
accounted for 20 of these accepted works of art.
Of the works accepted, SPHS students received 3 awards
and 2 honorable mentions!

Success
at Birmingham Southern's Regional high School Art
Show
Spain
Park Art students recently participated in the Southeastern
Regional High School Art Competition and Show. Spain
Park was invited to show eight pieces, which is a
great accomplishment considering that the show attracts
the best student art from Alabama and many neighboring
states. Approximately 300 works of art were submitted.
There were 100 works selected. Recieving Honerable
mentions for their work were C

Congradulations
to Igor Khot and Ben Thompson! Igor's digital image
"A
Long Voyage" won best of classification in
computer images at the 2006 Visual Arts Achievement
Statewide Exhibition. Ben Thompson's work
won best in classification in cramics. The work will
be on view at the state website- www.artsAlabama.org

Two
digital photography students have had their works
selected to the Alabama State House Student Art Show.
The works from Abby Garver
and Jason Quinn will be
displayed in the Alabama State House for a full year,
along with students' work form around the state. A
ceremony will be held in their honor on March 14th.

Four student works were selected for the 2006 State
Superintendent's Visual Arts Exhibit. This prestigious
event will be held from February 17 to March 3rd,
in the Old Supreme Court Library of the Alabama State
Capitol in Montgomery. Selected for this honor were
the following students' work ; Michael
Columbus for digital photography, Paul Orman for
graphite on paper drawing, Leah Kay for prisma color
on gray paper drawing and Jamie Cartledge for collage.

had here work chosen for the 2006 Annual High School
Competition at Alabama State University. The competition
commemorates Rosa Parks' involvement in the Montgomerey
Bus Boycot.

Success at Birmingham Southern's Regional high School
Art Show
Spain
Park Art students recently participated in the Southeastern
Regional High School Art Competition and Show.
Spain Park was invited to show thirteen pieces, which
is a great accomplishment considering that the show
attracts the best student art from Alabama and many
neighboring states. Approximately 34 high schools
participated of which 400 works of art were submitted.
There were 238 works selected. Mr. Cooley’s
student Madison A. Disalvo won a place with a mosaic
covered vessel. Mrs. Childers’ students: Chase
Goodwin, Kelly Harrington, and Erin Zeanah won four
places with drawing and painting. Erin Zeanah was
honored by winning two places. Mr. Myers’ students:
Lindsay Lagrange, Eli Cockrum, Elizabeth
Cotter, and Brittney White
won four places with digital imaging and photography.
Mrs. Ripp’s students Hunter Milling, Benjamin
J. Thompson, and Catherine Warnat won three places
with their Advanced Ceramic pieces and Hunter Milling
won an award of merit with a cash prize. Mr. Roos’
students: Ashley Lovell and Amber Wilkerson won two
places for their drawings. An awards ceremony and
the opening of the show were on January 15, and the
work will be on display at Birmingham Southern College,
Kennedy Art Center, Mon-Fri. 8:45 A.M.-4:30 P.M.,
through January 28.

Spain
Park Art Students Receive Awards and Recognition
Art
students at Spain Park High School have been recognized
for their creations at several different competitions
this January. At a southeastern regional art show,
hosted by Birmingham
Southern University, junior and senior students
had fifteen works accepted to the show. This was a
great accomplishment considering that the show attracts
the best student art from Alabama and many neighboring
states. Over 300 works of art were submitted of which
120 works were selected. Art IV and AP students had
eight works accepted in various media including printmaking,
drawing and painting. These students include Nick
Dolce, Brigham Godfrey (two
works), Morgan Sawyer, Kevin Tate,
Zak Taylor, Rachel Turner
and Adam Westenhofer. Mr. Myers’ Digital Imaging
and Digital Photography students provided the other
seven works in photography and digital art. These
students include Daniel Easley,
Igor Khot, A
Minor, L Reeves, Kevin
Tate, Chris Whitehead
and Adam Westenhofer.
An awards ceremony held on January 9th further recognized
the work of several of these students. Zak
Taylor won an award of merit and a cash prize
for his relief print. Allison Minor won an award of
merit and a cash prize for her self-portrait photograph.
Adam Westenhoffer won an award of merit and a cash
prize for his digital art as well as an honorable
mention for his charcoal still-life drawing. The work
will be on display through January 28th in the gallery
at Birmingham Southern University. Three of Students
were also recognized in the Birmingham Art
Association’s Birmingham’s Best High School
Show: “Visions of Unity”. Nick
Dolce, Adam Westenhofer
and Daniel Easley all received 2nd place honors as
well as cash awards for their work.

Several
students of Mr. Myers' Digital Imaging class at Spain
Park have recently had their work selected for various
shows around the state. A Monceret
won third place for his photograph of an Abercrombie
& Fitch zipper in the 9th and 10th grade photography
category, at the recent State Superintendent art show
held in Montgomery. C
Bevis, S Young and A
Minor all had works accepted to the annual State
House Art Show. These works will hang in the Alabama
State house in Montgomery along with 47 other works
submitted by students of all grades from throughout
the state. These students were honored at an awards
ceremony on March 15. Here is C

be seen at the Birmingham Museum of Art's Youth Art
Month exhibition along with other Spain Park artists
Erin Zeanah, Ivanova Yuliya and Cassie Warnat.

Dimuro, their artwork has been selected to represent
the district in the upcoming state art show and competition
in the categories of digital art and print making.

"Bubble
Balls" by CBevis was chosen as the best of
classification in computer images at the 2005 Visual
Arts Achievement Statewide Exhibition! The work will
be on display from April 4-29 at the exhibition hall
in the RCA tower in Montgomery. There will be an awards
ceremony at the State Council for the Arts on April
29th. The work will also be on view at the state website-
www.artsAlabama.org
