Elements of Art- Texture

Texture refers to the way things feel or look as though they might feel, if they were touched.

Textures that can be felt are called real textures.

Implied Texture is the where a two-dimensional piece of art is made to look like a certain texture, but in fact is just a smooth piece of paper.

Simulated Textures are made to mimic textures found in nature, while Invented Textures are of the artists own creation.

Textures can be smooth or rough or somewhere in-between, the degree of roughness can be seen by the shadow detail.

Textures can also be matt or shiny, this can be seen by how much light is reflected from the surface.
